Straighten Your Smile Invisibly

Straighten Your Smile Invisibly

Would you like straighter teeth but don't like the look of metal braces? Invisalign, an orthodontic treatment available from your Annapolis, MD, dentists, Dr. John Ruland and Dr. Michael Ruland of Ruland Family Dentistry, can help you straighten your smile discreetly.

Invisalign offers a wire-free straightening experience

Constant tension on teeth is needed to change their position. Traditional braces rely on wires to provide tension, while the Invisalign system uses a series of snugly fitting aligner trays worn over your teeth. The clear design of the trays allows them to blend in with your teeth, rather than call attention to your smile. Unlike metal braces, Invisalign aligner trays are removable. You'll take them out to eat, brush and floss.

How long will I wear my aligner trays?

Aligner trays should be worn for 20 to 22 hours per day for best results. After wearing a set of trays for two weeks, you'll replace them with the next set in the series. Your trays are designed for your smile using digital images, impressions and X-rays that are combined to create a virtual 3D image. The 3D image makes it possible to map out the stages of your treatment and create aligner trays that accomplish specific straightening goals.

If you are a teenager, you'll probably wear your aligner trays for the same amount of time you would have worn traditional braces. Adults often have a shorter wearing period. In fact, some adults only need to wear the trays for about six months.

Is Invisalign right for me?

Invisalign is an excellent solution for many people. If you're a teen or adult who's unhappy with your smile, it may be a good option for you too. Invisalign can straighten crooked teeth, close gaps and eliminate crowding issues. The system can also correct mild-to-moderate overbites, underbites, crossbites and open bites.

Will I have to make any changes to my usual routine?

Although friends who've worn metal braces may have had to give up certain foods during orthodontic treatment, food restrictions aren't necessary with Invisalign. After you remove your trays, you can eat anything you want.

Your oral hygiene routine remains the same as always. You'll simply brush and floss normally, then put the trays back in your mouth. Good oral hygiene, as well as regular visits to the Annapolis dental office, will help you keep your teeth and gums in good condition during your treatment.
